Accounts Assistant – Sales Ledger & Credit Control

We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to manage the sales ledger and credit control activities for Freightline Carriers. The role involves handling sales invoicing, bank and account reconciliations, payment allocations, and credit control using Xero. The successful candidate will ensure accurate financial records, timely invoicing, effective follow-up on overdue payments, and prompt resolution of customer account queries. The role requires strong accounting knowledge, proficiency in Xero, and the ability to communicate professionally with UK customers and suppliers.

• 1. Sales Ledger & Invoicing
• Prepare and issue accurate sales invoices within defined timelines.
• Process amended invoices and credit notes as required.
• Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies and payment-related queries.
• Maintain accurate sales ledger records and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
• 2. Bank & Account Reconciliation
• Reconcile bank transactions and customer accounts in Xero.
• Allocate customer receipts against outstanding invoices.
• Reconcile customer remittances and investigate unidentified payments.
• Ensure financial records are accurate and up to date.
• 3. Credit Control & Collections
• Monitor outstanding customer balances and identify overdue accounts.
• Follow up with customers to secure outstanding payments.
• Confirm payment dates and maintain accurate collection records.
• Send professional payment reminders and escalate long-overdue accounts where necessary.
• Prepare customer statements and monitor outstanding balances.
• 4. Supplier Payments & Account Support
• Prepare supplier payment runs and support timely payment processing.
• Reconcile supplier accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Respond to customer and supplier account queries.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve billing and payment issues.
